Live Electronics: from DJ to DIY
Freitag 3. Mai 2019, 14:00 im Lehrstudio
"Live" electronic music performance is nowadays very common, and yet completely undefined, ranging between magnified dj sets, playback shows, to live coding and completely improvised noise acts. In this workshop, we will take a look inside some of the most succesful approaches to understand the tools and aesthetic goals and possibilities.
BIO
Bienoise is Alberto Ricca, teacher, co-founder of the radical improvisation label Floating Forest Records, and electronic musician whose productions are balanced between contemplation and clubbing, with a deep fetishism for instruments pushed to their limits and mash-up between musical genres.
In 2014, after his degree in Media Studies and the master in music composition for the cinema at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, he completed his bachelor in Electronic Music and Sound Technologies at the Como Conservatory. He also took courses in MaxMSP programming, piano, and composition.
He collaborates with IED Milano and many others, teaching electronic music production and performance.
His last work as Bienoise, out on the relaunched cult label Mille Plateaux, is 'Most Beautiful Design', a minialbum of compositions for low-fi mp3s published on floppy disk.
In 2015 Ricca released Meanwhile, Tomorrow, considered by many Italian music magazines one of the albums of the year, on White Forest Records.
In January 2018 Bienoise released on Enklav the celebrated Sharawadji III, a free-form techno EP oscillating between analog and digital sounds. He also released on Concrete records (Small Hopes of Common People 2015), Bitcrusher (Sono una Teiera Tonda Tonda\Il mio beccuccio è a forma d'onda, 2010) and Yerevan Tapes with his duo Merchants.
Since 2015, he's in the roster of The Italian New Wave, with some of the most interesting italian producers.
In 2014, he's been in Tokyo with Red Bull Music Academy.
He's one of the founders of Floating Forest, an improvised music label based in northern Italy, publishing artists such Davide Merlino, Achille Succi, Pasquale Mirra, Sabir Mateen, Garrison Fewell and many others.
His contemporary dance work, 'TO BE BANNED FROM ROME', co-written with the dancer and choreographer Annamaria Ajmone, debuted in 2017 for Torinodanza Festival.
He's not a dj.
