Abstract In the context of this work, an existing two-to-five channel upmix algorithm is modified and implemented in the real-time programming environment Pure Data. The implemented algorithm is based on a two-to-three channel repanning stage to feed the three front channels of a 5.0 loudspeaker setup as well as an ambience extraction and synthesis stage to generate the two surround channels. The essential requirements of an upmix system are stated and an existing matrix based upmix system is presented. The base system for the implementation and its modifications are explained in detail and the finished program is tested with various signals. Finally, the qualities of the program are documented and further suggestions are made in order to improve its Functionality.
