Topic Audio Signal Processing
Abstract The generation of an Auditory Virtual Environment after Jens Blauert, in short AVE, is the creation of the auditory part of an interactive virtual environment. In this virtual environment humans have perceptions, that do not correspond to their physical environment. Time-Stretching refers to a time prolongation of an audio signal without effecting its pitch. This can be achieved with various algorithms, which produce different artifacts. The concept “Artistic Time-Stretching” has been developed, that uses these artifacts as a musical effect to create an AVE. To use this concept in a theatre production of Kafka’s “The Trial”, the needed realtime capable software has been developed. With the help of Ambisonics, a three-dimensional surround sound technique, a live performance originated in cooperation with directors and actors, which was successfully used in the public performances.
