Computer Music and Sound Art

In addition to the established Master's programme in Computer Music and Sound Art, the renowned Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics - IEM at the University of Art and Design Graz will offer Austria's first Bachelor's programme in Computer Music and Sound Art from October 2014.

The focus of the three-year course is on:
* Composition of computer music
* Performance and interpretation of electronic works
* Conception and development of new electronic instruments
* music informatics

Since these areas are strongly intermingled in the practice of computer music, the teaching of a broad spectrum of skills is at the forefront of the degree programme. In addition, a comprehensive understanding of the history, theory and aesthetics of computer music enables students to critically reflect on their artistic practice, while giving them all the freedom to position themselves artistically.
The Bachelor Computer Music and Sound Art provides an education that prepares graduates for professional life in the field of music, art, media and creative industries. At the same time, it offers the opportunity to deepen the knowledge and skills acquired and to learn methods of artistic-scientific research with the subsequent two-year Master's programme in Computer Music and Sound Art.
